11 June 1287. On this day Rhys ap Maredudd attacked the castles of Dinefwr, Carreg Cennen and Llandovery, slaughtering the garrisons in a single day. Two days later he plundered Swansea, put the civilian population to the sword, ravaged the Gower and captured the castle at Emlyn. His forces also ravaged Carmarthen town, but the castle held out.
